Sir, It is disappointing that Derwent May is oblivious (Thunderer, Jan 18) to the delights of the Great Court at the British Museum.
After a visit to the galleries, I find it a welcome relief to emerge under Norman Foster’s great glass canopy, to enjoy the view across to the reading room, to browse in the wonderfully stocked bookshop and to enjoy a drink at the café.
The Great Court doesn’t need to become “another amazing gallery”. It fulfils perfectly the purpose for which it was designed, as a tranquil breathing space at the heart of a collection of splendours.
