The Cool Hotel Guide: 2 Blackburne Terrace, Liverpool

In between Liverpool’s two cathedrals on the hill above the docks you will find a little early Victorian terrace of six houses on a quiet street. This year, Sarah and Glenn Whitter quietly opened a high-class four-room B&B at No 2 of the terrace, set back from the street on a cobbled drive and hidden behind lime trees. There is no sign to the B&B. Sarah, a former primary school teacher, and Glenn, an interior designer, property developer, musician and composer, have gone for the low-key, discreet approach.

In a nutshell

The Whitters’ love of modern art and interior design shines through from the moment you step inside. Paintings with bold splashes of colour, aquamarine velvet sofas, anglepoise lamps, abstract sculptures . . . every detail has been well-considered. 2 Blackburne Terrace is a tasteful oasis that’s bound to go down well with the Wallpaper* magazine crowd.
