The Collector

Marcus Dunstan, 18 (90min)

A burglar (Josh Stewart, impressive) breaks into a big house to steal some loot from the safe, only to find the place booby-trapped and the owners held prisoner by the titular masked maniac. Does Stewart save himself or the family he was trying to rob? It’s a neat set-up, or at least could have been if the film-makers had bothered with the script. Instead, there are implausibilities that don’t so much insult the audience’s intelligence as deny any knowledge of it. A Saw movie by any other name, The Collector will be a treat for folk who like to see arms in mantraps, lips sewn shut and fingers slashed with razor blades.
