Boots, the chain of pharmacies, plans to open 30 more stores in Ireland by 2011 in a €50m investment that will see the creation of 800 new jobs. It is also renovating 17 of its existing stores.

TUESDAY: Sales in the first half of 2006 were €3.52 billion for Smurfit Kappa Group, with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) and before exceptionals of €382m. Sales were 22% higher in the second quarter than in the first.
WEDNESDAY: Fyffes has taken full control of Lembcke, the Danish fresh produce firm, by buying 50% of it for €16.8m. It had already bought half of Lembcke in 1993. Fyffes also announced the purchase of Interbanan and Valby Bananimport for €6m.
Quinn Direct, the Irish insurance company, announced it is to create 1,000 new jobs in Navan, Cavan and Blanchardstown.

FRIDAY: After Denis O’Brien’s Digicel and Chile’s Entel pulled out, the Luxembourg telco Millicom International Cellular agreed to take over a 50% plus one share stake in Colombian wireless telephony company Ola. The deal is worth $125m (€97.5m).
