PODCAST OF THE WEEK
The Newsnight website is an unruly affair teeming with features. This is great for news junkies, not so great if you are a fan of soothing web design. If you are one of the former and want good mobile news content, then the show’s audio and video podcasts will impress. Presented by Emily Maitlis and other regulars, they appear every Friday with the best of the week’s interviews, discussions and reports. www.bbc.co.uk/newsnight
BLOG OF THE WEEK
Sweden has produced the odd major group — the Cardigans and the Hives and some folks called Abba. Craig Bonnell’s blog swedesplease, however, takes us into more arcane territory, offering us MP3s from Swedish bands “mostly singing in English and mostly better than what you hear on the radio in the US”. Find free and legal links to tracks from Tourist, I’m From Barcelona, Don Agbai and a host of acts you will have never heard of. Unless you happen to be Swedish. www.swedesplease.blogspot.com
YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
Ryan Terry is an interactive designer, illustrator and animator in Houston, who has made a Portrait Machine. It asks you questions such as “What colour best represents you?” with six options and “What’s your emotional state right now?” Once you answer, you receive a far from figurative portrait with many a slash and squiggle that you can print out and stick on your fridge door. The portrait below is of one of the staff on The Knowledge. If you would like to subject yourself to similar humiliation and analysis, this is where to go.
