A service of thanksgiving for the life and work of Lord Morris of Aberavon KG KC, the former Welsh secretary and attorney-general, was held yesterday, Wednesday February 28, at noon in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, London.

The service was conducted by the Right Rev Anthony Ball, Canon Rector, who gave the ­bidding and the blessing. Music was sung by the St Margaret’s Consort, conducted by Mr Greg Morris, director of music, St Margaret’s Church. The organ was played by Richard Pearce.

Readings were given by Mr Arthur Cross and Mr Harry Cooke, grandsons. Mr William Clegg KC and Lord Falconer of Thoroton KC gave tributes. The Rev Robert Nicholls, minister, the Welsh Church of Central London, read the Psalm in English and Welsh. Mrs Elinor Blick, daughter, read the lesson. The Rev Lord Griffiths of Burry Port gave the address. The Rev Mark Birch MVO, Precentor, introduced the prayers.

The London Welsh Male Voice Choir, led by musical director Dr Edward-Rhys Harry, sang before and during the service, including the anthem Morte Christe.

Mr Carwyn Jones represented the King, Dame Shân Legge-Bourke represented the Princess Royal and Admiral Lord West of Spithead represented the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The Speaker of the House of Lords was represented by Dame Rosie Winterton MP.
