Teenage girls arrested over bus joyride film on YouTube

Two 16-year-old girls and a man have been interviewed by police after a video of joyriders crashing a stolen double decker bus was posted on YouTube.

The film shows the bus being driven at high speed by one of the girls, wearing a hoodie, as the man, thought to be 21, issues instructions.

At one point during the 12-mile joyride he tells her to drive the wrong way around a roundabout. The fllm ends after the bus careers into a row of parked cars in Amesbury, Wiltshire, and the trio run off shrieking with laughter.

The tearaways caused thousands of pounds of damage to the double decker, which was taken from the depot of the Wilts & Dorset Bus Company on June 18.

In the five-minute clip, which begins with a shot of the bus’s smashed windscreen, the man repeatedly asks, “What we driving?” to which the girls scream, “A double-decker!”.

At one point the girl at the wheel begins weaving the bus back and forth across the road while beeping the horn.

The three joyriders, who called their video clip “stolen bus solstice 2010 hoodies amesbury”, were arrested by police at 3.45am on suspicion of “aggravated vehicle taking”. They were released on police bail and no charges have been brought.

A spokesman for the bus company described their actions as “a foolish crime”.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Considerable damage has been done to the bus, some other vehicles and a wall. The three arrested have been helping with our inquiries, but have now been released on bail.’’
