Tax and saving

Sir, Simon Goldsworthy (letter, Nov 23) says that when registering to send a tax return online it takes HM Revenue & Customs 28 days to issue the necessary activation PIN to the taxpayer’s address.

In fact, we issue the PIN within a few days of the taxpayer’s initial registration with us. The taxpayer then has 28 days in which to activate the PIN — enabling them to take full advantage of all the benefits that go with online filing.
