SMALLER STOCK TO WATCH
BioProgress, which moved from Nasdaq to AIM last year at 16p, jumped 12½p to 107½p on a deal to supply Colgate Palmolive with film that dissolves in the mouth for the launch of a new toothpaste product. Technology developed by the UK company’s BioTec Films division in Florida will be used in the production of Max Fresh whitening toothpaste.
DIRECTOR’S DEALINGS
UMECO, which provides distribution services to the aerospace market, shed 2½p at 395p as a non-executive sold stock for £1.2 million. Osman Abdullah sold 300,000 shares at 400p, 220,000 through a trust in which he is interested. Last month Brian McGowan, the chairman, gave a confident outlook, citing a recovery in civil aerospace markets.

Controlling shareholders of Glenmorangie, Britain’s biggest-selling single malt whisky, confirmed that the company is up for sale. Paddy Power has started a book on likely suitors. Brown-Forman, owner of Jack Daniel’s, is 11-8 favourite, ahead of Bacardi (13-8), Burn Stewart (3-1), LVMH (6-1) and Allied-Domecq (16-1). George Best is a 250-1 outsider.
