SMALLER STOCK TO WATCH
Chorion, the media group that owns the rights to Noddy, has caught the eye of the Slater family. Jim Slater, the share tipster, and his son Christopher, are believed to have built a stake of about 0.4 per cent through their private pension fund. Meanwhile, Mark, Mr Slater’s other son, has been buying shares for the two funds he runs for Marlborough Fund Management.
DEAL OF THE DAY
Blackstone, the US investment firm, is understood to be in exclusive talks to acquire Southern Cross Healthcare, the privately owned nursing home operator, for about £170 million. Southern Cross, backed by West Private Equity, has 8,000 beds catering to the elderly and mentally ill. Blackstone was an underbidder in the auction of Four Seasons.

First-half figures from Rentokil Initial on Thursday will be accompanied by the results of a strategy review. It has been one of the worst performing shares in the FTSE 100, closing at 153¾p on Friday against a 2004 high of 208¾p. CMC Group offers a spread of 154¾p to 155p on the price, with no expiry date.
