His unorthodox name crops up on many a Brazilian and Latin session; British audiences will also have spotted him at the side of that ageless Buena Vista Social Club diva Omara Portuondo. Finally stepping out of the shadows, the guitarist and singer Swami Jr delivers a sophisticated set, heavily laced with bossa nova and samba, that is ideal late-night fare. Compared with CéU's recent must-hear release, Vagarosa, it's a fairly conventional collection, with the emphasis on relaxed tempos and understated vocals. But like that other unsung Brazilian performer, Celso Fonseca, Swami Jr is a master craftsman, and guests of the calibre of the pop star Vanessa da Mata provide an extra touch of class.
