Dario Argento, 18 (1977)
There is no denying that the Italian shock-meister Argento’s shrill, lurid tale of demonic goings-on at a ballet school looks incredible. But sadly, in Blu-ray it is all a little too vivid and the copious blood is horribly pink. It is worth viewing, though, for the virtuoso opening scenes, when Jessica Harper arrives at a rain-swept airport and begins her journey to Hell, a descent sadly let down by the befuddled plot that follows. But the sheer panache of some of the kills and an asthmatic hag in the final reel redeem things somewhat.
