Superbug strikes more children

A total of 147 babies and children suffered potentially fatal blood infections last year after contracting MRSA in NHS hospitals.

The numbers were revealed in preliminary results of a study by the Health Protection Agency. A spokeswoman said that the research should “help hospitals see where the brunt of infections are and how to prevent them”.

More than three quarters of the children in the study were under a year old.
