Sunderland have completed the signing of Michael Chopra from Cardiff City on a four-year deal. It is understood the 23-year-old put pen to paper following a medical on Wearside this morning after the Black Cats reportedly agreed a fee of £5million
The former Newcastle striker becomes Roy Keane’s third summer signing after the capture of Greg Halford and Russell Anderson.
Chopra was the Coca-Cola Championship’s second highest scorer last term with 22 goals in 42 matches.
Roy Keane, the Sunderland manager said: “I’m delighted that Michael has joined us. He’s a natural goalscorer who will bring competition with our other quality strikers to the side.
“I’m very confident he will score goals for this football club.”

Sunderland moved for Chopra, who joined Cardiff for £500,000 in June 2006, after missing out on David Nugent, who has joined Portsmouth.
Keane agreed a £6m deal with Preston for Nugent, and Chopra’s goal record compared favourably to the England striker’s last season.
