Sir, I was working in Sierra Leone when that country changed to right-hand traffic on March 1, 1971 (“Chaos looms as islanders swing to the left”, Sept 2). All went reasonably smoothly and, thankfully, no one took up the suggestion of a correspondent of the Freetown Daily Mail who, in January that year, suggested that, to prepare for the changeover, Sundays in February should be used to practise right-hand driving.
