This week: make-up brushes to know

My bugbear is when brands use numbers to name their brushes. For example, I love the Zoeva 228, but it doesn’t mean much, does it? Here’s my guide to the tools worth knowing about.

For highlighting Smashbox fan brush, £15. Perfect for dustings of highlighter; plus, use it to brush off any stray grains of make-up.

For lips Real Techniques retractable lip brush, £7. Use the tapered tip to line, and the flat side to fill and blend colour.

For blending eye shadow Zoeva 228 Crease, £7. It blurs harsh lines and blends colours.

For powder Clinique powder brush, £24. Ideal for swirling loose or pressed powder over the face.

Cheek brush Suqqu cheek brush, £85. It deposits colour evenly. And it’s likely to be the softest brush you’ll ever use.
