A consortium of German and Irish investors is hoping to build a €25m student accommodation centre in Cabra, north Dublin, on the site of an infamous gangland shooting.

The investment, which is being managed by Duke McCaffrey, will involve demolishing the former Matt’s of Cabra pub. The pub closed following the murder of Eamon Dunne, who was shot dead while attending a birthday party at the then Fassaugh House in 2010.

Labinies, the company behind the development, acquired the 0.5-hectare site from New Generation Homes.

It has sought permission from An Bord Pleanala to build 208 en suite bedrooms split across 32 housing units in a linked four- and five-storey building.
