Stravinsky's solo piano music ranges from the manifest immaturity of the late-Romantic Sonata in F sharp minor to the neoclassical perfection of the Sonata (no key specified), whose three concise movements show how Mozart, Bach and Stravinsky are one and the same (marvellous) thing. This selection includes both works, the big early one coming over engagingly enough, though a couple of unwonted little tempo jumps in the later one's first movement are disturbing. Also included are the boisterously avant-garde Piano-Rag-Music (somewhat briskly executed), the Circus Polka, the Tango, the exquisite, icon-like Serenade in A major, Four Etudes, Op 7, and a student Scherzo from 1902.
