iPod inquiry

The US International Trade Commission has launched an investigation into whether Apple Computer’s iPod digital music player infringes on a Creative Technology patent. It is the latest in a string of legal spats between Apple and Creative, of Singapore.

Thomson buys

Thomson, the Canadian information group, has agreed to buy AFX News for about $20 million (£10.8 million) from Agence France-Presse, the European news service. Thomson said it would focus the service on specialist financial content.

Yukos ruling

Moscow’s Court of Arbitration ruled that back-tax claims of 353.8 billion roubles can be included in the register of creditors of Yukos. The inclusion of the tax bill in the register will ensure that the Russian Government is the biggest creditor to the oil giant.
