Siemens inquiry

The European Commission said that it had launched a four-month inquiry into plans by Siemens, the German conglomerate, to acquire VA Tech, the Austrian engineer. Siemens won more than 90 per cent of shares in an offer valuing the Linz-based firm at €995 million (£685 million).

Goldman’s stake

Goldman Sachs disclosed that it is the largest institutional investor in Martha Stewart’s media group. By 2004’s end, the bank built up 7.2 per cent, or $50 million (£26 million) of the outstanding stock, passing the investment company ValueAct, with 6 per cent.
