Cingular in talks
CINGULAR WIRELESS, the second biggest wireless telephone company in the US, admitted it is in talks to buy some of NextWave Telecom’s wireless licences, but denied it had reached an agreement. The earlier announcement of a $1.4 billion (£871 million) deal was blamed on a clerical error.
Dutch retailer loses sales
THE market share of Albert Heijn, the flagship super- market chain of Ahold, the Dutch retailer, slipped to 22.1 per cent in the second quarter of the year from 24.5 per cent last year, according to research from GfK. Each percentage-point change in market share represents €250 million (£175 million) in annual sales.

Ford’s US sales slip
FORD MOTOR Co, the world’s second biggest carmaker, reported a 10.7 per cent fall in its US sales of cars and trucks in July from the 2002 period, to 297,265 vehicles. The fall was 7.1 per cent without an adjustment for one fewer sales days in July 2002.
