Microsoft deal

Microsoft has struck a deal with EMI, the music group, to pre-load music videos on to Zune, the US software group ‘s planned competitor to Apple’s iPod music player. Industry watchers expect Microsoft’s product, confirmed recently, to be launched in 2007.

Neteller denial

Neteller, the AIM-listed payment processor, denied that it was blocking money from being returned by BetOnSports to its customers. The internet bookie claimed that its ability to repay customer deposits depended on processors releasing funds.

Cisco settlement

Cisco Systems, the US networks group, said it had settled a class-action lawsuit dating back to 2001. The action had claimed that the company had misled investors and that some officials had sold its shares on insider information.

Boeing ultimatum

Boeing, the US aircraft maker, threatened to end production of its C-17 military cargo plane unless it receives further orders from the US Armed Forces. The company plans to end production in mid-2009 with the loss of some 5,500 jobs across four US plants.

Volkswagen strike

Volkswagen workers producing the company’s Beetle car have gone on strike in a dispute over pay. Workers at the German carmaker’s Mexican plant walked out yesterday, after rejecting the company’s offer of a 4 per cent pay rise.
