United’s Heathrow strike off
United Airlines ground staff at Heathrow airport have called off a strike set for Friday after a pay deal was reached. The Transport & General Workers Union said it will be recommending the new pay offer to members in a ballot to be held next week. Baggage handlers and check-in staff had planned to strike for 24 hours.
Court plea on phone lines
Verizon Communications and Qwest Communications International have asked a federal court to block temporary rules by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that require the companies to lease telephone lines to rivals. They said the FCC’s temporary rules contradicted previous court rulings.
The National Association of Securities Dealers has revealed that US competition regulators are investigating possible anti-competitive practices by the American Stock Exchange and the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
