CBS Corp and Time Warner Inc’s Warner Bros Entertainment announced plans to shut down two small television networks, UPN and WB, and form a new 50-50 broadcast network, called CW, to be launched in the autumn.

United Tech up

United Technologies, whose brands include Otis lifts and Pratt & Whitney engines, delivered a 2 per cent increase in its fourth-quarter net profit to $626 million (£350 million), after improved results across all six of its business units.

Kimberly drops

Kimberly-Clark, the health and hygiene group, reported a 17 per cent drop in fourth-quarter net profit to $371.1 million (£208 million), weighed down by restructuring charges and raw material costs. The company plans to raise its dividend in April.
