Steyr wins tender

The Czech Government approved Steyr-Daimler-Puch, of Austria, as the winner of a $1 billion (£560 million) tender to supply armoured personnel carriers. Steyr was up against Patria, of Finland, for one of the biggest orders placed by the Czech army to date.

Estée Lauder fades

Estée Lauder, the cosmetics maker, delivered a 41 per cent drop in second-quarter profit to $81.7 million (£46 million), weighed down by a charge from the sale of its Stila business. The company said its figures for the present quarter would also fall short.

Microsoft short

Microsoft, the world’s biggest software maker, reported second-quarter revenues slightly below its forecasts owing to a short supply of Xbox 360 consoles. However, the company reaffirmed its full-year target of shipping up to 5.5 million Xboxes.
