Music fans went wild this morning after reports that the Stone Roses are to reform.

Ian Brown and John Squire, the lead singer and guitarist respectively, are understood to have buried the hatchet after their 15-year feud, having hardly spoken since the band broke up in 1996.

The Sun reported this morning that the pair got talking again at the funeral of the mother of their former bandmate Gary “Mani” Mounfield, and are now planning a reunion later in the year if they can convince their drummer, Alan Wren, to join them.

Fans responded with excitement to the news on Twitter. Ryan_Adams93 wrote: “the news i’m hearing about #the #stone #roses is one of the greatest things i’ve ever heard. I pray it’s true”, while the greatflood10 posted: “The best band ever lived are to reform? I am truely happy, Spike Island Re-union?”

Others fans from the band’s heyday were reluctant to get their hopes up. BetfairFootpall wrote: “what if it’s terrible though? Not sure I could handle the disappointment”, and edwatsonjones said: “Mixed feelings about the news that the #stoneroses r getting back together. Would love to see them live, but r they in it just for money?”

Despite only producing two albums in their 12 years together, the Stone Roses quickly became legendary as pioneers of the “Madchester” music scene; an explosion of young talent in the city that also produced the Happy Mondays, James and the Charlatans.

Squire has since moved into a career as a visual artist, as well as forming a new band, the Seahorses, while Brown has pursued a solo career.

Rumours of a reunion have surfaced several times, but Squire and Brown have always quickly put an end to them. Representatives of the pair have yet to confirm the new reports.
