Stoke City last night completed the signing of Cameroon striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and hope to add the permanent capture of Bruno Martins Indi for £7.2 million. Choupo-Moting, the former Schalke player, has joined on a free transfer four years after manager Mark Hughes first tried to sign him. He is seen as a direct replacement for Marko Arnautovic who signed for West Ham United last month in a £25 million deal. Crystal Palace had also shown an interest in Martins Indi, who spent last season on loan at Stoke. But Palace appear to have conceded defeat, although Frank de Boer’s team do expect to sign Manchester United’s 19-year-old Dutchman Timothy Fosu-Mensah on a season’s loan.
