Stephen Bywater

Following David James’s departure to Manchester City, Bywater was given the chance during the 2004-05 season to fulfil the promise that persuaded the Hammers to part with £300,000 for his services when he was just 17. The young keeper was key to West Ham’s promotion push, making 38 appearances, but will face stiff competition to keep his place with the arrival of Roy Carroll from Manchester United.
