Kevin Smith, the director of Jersey Girl picks his five favourite films

JAWS (On DVD and video)

Because it’s Jaws. It’s one of the best movies made, whether by accident or design. Gripping, fantastic stuff.

A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS (On DVD and video)

It’s a feast for anyone who loves the English language. Paul Scofield is a great unsung actor and it’s set in historical England, which is cool.

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST (On DVD and video)

This is the best depiction of Jesus I’ve seen. It really makes you think about the dichotomy of man as God and God as man. It’s incredibly well acted.

DO THE RIGHT THING (On DVD and video)

It’s very primal, and hits on you on all sorts of insitinctual levels. But what I really admire is how it’s able to be a really funny movie and then spin suddenly on a dime and turn into a very serious piece of work.

JFK (On DVD and video)

Whether or not you agree with the theory about the President’s assassination, the film is brilliantly edited and the acting is great.
