Staff dogged by low morale

THE public sector suffers low morale, widespread bullying and fails to tackle underperformance, according to its own managers, reports Personnel Today (Jan 29).

It highlights research by the charity Roffey Park, which found that managers in the public sector rate their organisations as poorer in almost every aspect than managers in other sectors rate theirs. Flexible working is the only area in which the public sector scores highly.

“The report suggests strongly that the public sector is not well,” says Annette Sinclair, a senior Roffey Park researcher.

Stephen Moir, president of the Public Sector People Managers’ Association attributed the results to continuing anger over pay.
