This Ohio-headquartered law firm, with offices in London, Leeds, New York City, Tokyo and Shanghai, is one of the latest big firms to expand to Ireland. It opened an office in Dublin in May and is due to open in Amsterdam this year.

It advised Shelby Companies on the acquisition of a 45.64 per cent stake in Birmingham City Football Club. The deal, which completed in July, provided the client with full ownership and control of the club’s stadium St Andrew’s and part-ownership of Birmingham City Football Club.

Another deal, valued at £260.8 million, involved advising ECI Partners on its investment in Commify, the UK-headquartered European leader in business messaging solutions to local enterprises. The firm can even boast that one of its partners, the qualified barrister Wayne Barnes, has worked as a referee at four rugby world cups.
