Gunning for glory: Arsenal’s confident defeat of Chelsea attracted a lot of comment this week
Gunning for glory: Arsenal’s confident defeat of Chelsea attracted a lot of comment this week
MARK PAIN

Arsène Wenger was derided for failing to win trophies and ‘settling’ for a Champions League place. He has won three FA Cups in four years and is derided for failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in two decades.
Matt Brown, Wingrave

Arsenal outplayed Chelsea to win the FA Cup. Graeme Souness and Rio Ferdinand, comments please.
Doug Hazell, Fringford

In his FA Cup final player ratings (last week), Paul Rowan gave Per Mertesacker 7/10. Everyone I spoke to agreed he was Arsenal’s man of the match.
Alan Ware, via email

In his cup final report (last week), Jonathan Northcroft wrote about Alexis Sanchez’s deliberate handball, but the ball just hitting the arm is not deliberate, so therefore not a handball.
Bob Clay, Kettering

According to your statistics (last week) Manchester United and Liverpool have each won 44 trophies. If you include the European Super Cup as a trophy then the two Fifa World Club Champions trophies won by United should be added, taking their total to 46.
Stuart Buxton, Derby

You stated that Arsenal have won the FA Cup nine times since 1993 — it is eight.
Chris Nott, Andover

Further to Frank Lampard’s interview (last week), young players are often taken out of school for ‘day release’ two or three times a week, with the quality and purpose of education on these days quite variable.
Matthew Jacklin, via email

J Muir’s suggestion (last week) that Millwall be relegated because of a pitch invasion is laughable. In Nottingham, thousands invaded the Forest pitch, just for staying up. Perpetrators should be fined and banned.
S Walker, via email

Why not scrap the offside law in football? I play hockey, which got rid of it years ago, making for a more open, higher scoring game.
Andy Robinson, Rotherham

After the defeat by South Africa England’s ODI captain Eoin Morgan criticised the Lord’s pitch, which is a bit rich as he is a Middlesex player. The pitch was not a factor with the dismissals, just dreadful shots.
Norman Spooner, Wantage

Will somebody tell the Eurosport tennis commentators to stop talking so much? I find them particularly intrusive, especially when they start discussing matters which have little to do with what we are watching on the screen.
Gavin Pike, via email
