England pair to contest final

Bowls: Ellen Falkner, the holder, will take on Jo Morris, her England team-mate, in the engage WBT World Women’s Matchplay Championship final at Potters Leisure Resort in Norfolk today. Falkner beat Caroline Brown, last year’s runner-up from Lanarkshire, 6-6, 9-8 after trailing 8-3 with three ends to play in the second set, while Morris beat Gemma Broadhurst, the WIBC world under-25 champion, 10-7, 7-3. In the mixed WBT singles, Greg Harlow defeated David Gourlay, the No 3 seed, 8-8, 10-7.

Ferrari positive

Motor racing: Ferrari launched their 2006 Formula One car without fanfare yesterday but with plenty of determination to put a dismal year behind them and recapture the title. “We will go into this season with a great motivation,” Jean Todt, the managing director, said.

Golf: Severiano Ballesteros has delayed his first tournament appearance of 2006 because of continuing back problems. The 48-year-old had hoped to enter the Dubai Desert Classic. He played his first event for nearly two years at the Madrid Open in October.
