Sport in brief: Camogie

Galway record last-gasp win over Wexford and are handily-place so secure a semi-final spot

GALWAY secured a stoppage-time victory against Wexford to put them in a strong position for a semi-final spot after round 3 of the Gala All-Ireland senior camogie championship.

With her side trailing by a point, substitute Jessica Gill launched an 80m free in an attempt to grab an equaliser four minutes into stoppage time. It dropped just short but and spilled into the Wexford net. Ursula Jacob slotted her seventh free to bring the score to 1-8 to 0-10 but time was against the Model County women.

Cork had too much firepower for a spirited Dublin, who improved after a heavy defeat to Wexford last week but still fell to the Leesiders 1-23 to 1-6 yesterday.

Clare lost 1-12 to 1-9 to Tipperary. The Premier women led by 1-6 to 0-2 at the interval, Claire Grogan scoring 1-2 but the Banner stormed back after the break.
