Sir, According to Magnus Linklater (Comment, Jan 25), one former head of the KGB said that he was getting more information from The New York Times than by infiltrating moles into the National Security Agency.
Mr Linklater does not realise that the KGB head was teasing his Western interviewer. Exactly at that time the KGB was running George Blake as a mole in MI6. Blake gave away the American and British secret agent network in the USSR and East Germany and he also gave the Soviets the data about the invaluable Anglo-American Berlin Tunnel. Such information the KGB would not have found in the pages of The New York Times.
