Splinter Cell 3D

In this early title for Nintendo’s new 3-D handheld console you play as a special agent charged with preventing a global war

Tread carefully in this early title for Nintendo’s new 3-D handheld console. You play as Sam Fisher, a special agent charged with preventing a global war. No pressure, then.

Starting with a mission to rescue a kidnapped boffin, you must stay undetected by keeping your visibility and noise levels down (both are monitored by onscreen gauges). The 3-D graphics work well, not least in helping you to judge distances easily as you search for nooks and crannies to hide in, but there are some niggles.

Much of it takes place in low-light situations, making the game quite hard to see, while the controls are complicated. Plus, if you’re discovered by the enemy, you must return to the last point the game saved, often some distance back.

There are some neat touches here, but we expect more from other 3DS titles.
