Madrid A council in Murcia, in southern Spain, has banned nudity on its beaches and anyone baring all faces a fine of €750. Planting an umbrella in the sand to reserve a place, urinating in the sea and playing loud music have also been outlawed by the council in San Pedro del Pinatar, which is run by the conservative Popular Party and wants to encourage “family and sport-based tourism”.
More martial law for Philippines
Manila President Duterte wants to extend martial law in the southern Philippines as the army tries to drive militants affiliated to Isis out of the city of Marawi on the island of Mindanao. The 60-day declaration of martial law expires on Saturday and Mr Duterte’s opponents say that it is another step towards authoritarianism, but it also highlights the failure to quell a rebellion that has driven 400,000 people from their homes.
Babies sold to the highest bidders
Beijing A series of online chat groups used to trade babies for cash have been shut by the Chinese authorities. The groups, on the platform QQ, were used by people who said they were parents advertising their babies for illegal adoption. One was offered for 30,000 yuan (£3,400). Buyers stated what kind of child they wanted and posted money offers. Many wanted boys but sellers tended to offer girls.
