The streets of Soweto echoed yesterday with the chants of the liberation struggle, as South Africans marked the 30th anniversary of the Soweto uprising. The famous photograph of the dying Hector Pieterson, 13, being carried by a fellow student came to symbolise the sacrifices of the young. Sam Nzima, who took the picture, was overcome with emotion as he embraced President Mbeki near the scene of the shooting.
