“I made a tape at a mall. It was a karaoke machine they just put in a mall. I finally went and recorded a song by Anita Baker – Caught up in the Rapture? I was playing it secretly and my mother’s boyfriend came out and heard it. He said, ‘that’s you!’ and I said ‘yeah’ and he said ‘I know someone who can help you.’”
