Soulwax: Any Minute Now

In the five years since their debut, 50% of this Belgian quartet (the Dewaele brothers) have scored a huge hit with the 2 Many DJs mix album, Radio Soulwax Part 2. Luckily, the full band's return is a strong and often brilliant one; certainly, nobody buying this on the back of Part 2 will feel short-changed. Aided by Flood and Alan Moulder, they blast through a sequence of electro-glam stompers that may owe a lot to Bolan, Berlin Bowie and early Roxy, but are too thrilling, edgy and sinister for this to matter. Standouts include Slowdance, Compute and the album's real killer, the trashy future classic NY Excuse, while Dance 2 Slow is the sort of poseurs' ambient weird-out you imagine Sofia Coppola saying "cool" about before adding it to her next soundtrack.
