Sega’s speedy hedgehog might have lost his lustre on consoles in recent years, but remakes of classic titles are winning new fans on the iPhone and iPad. This latest episode is perhaps the best one yet. You play alternately as Sonic and his squirrel friend Tails as they take on the evil Dr Eggman and Metal Sonic. Which means more racing through platform levels while bouncing on enemies, and taking ring-collecting challenges in between. It looks spiffing and moves smoothly, providing a rollicking retro fix for Sonic fans and newcomers alike. Put your headphones on, though, as the jingly-jangly soundtrack will drive non-players mad.
