Somewhere

A Hollywood posterboy lives a life of intoxication and vacuous womanising in LA’s iconic Chateau Marmont hotel

Returning to the languorous celebrity ennui of Lost in Translation Coppola’s slight but stylish arthouse trifle stars Stephen Dorff as Johnny Marco, a Hollywood posterboy living a life of intoxication and vacuous womanising in LA’s iconic Chateau Marmont hotel. When his ex leaves their 12-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) with him for an extended stay, he has to recalibrate his aimlessly luxurious existence. Not radically, though — this is not a movie of momentous revelations. It is essentially a short film spun out to feature length, but the self-indulgence is peppered with moments of listless hilarity, as a torpid Jonny is entertained by pole dancers in his hotel room and has his features encased in Latex by on-set make-up artists.
