BARGAIN BASEMENT

Chandelier earrings, £18, by Mikey; 020 7580 8123.

EROGENOUS ZONE

Forget midriff or cleavage — it’s so last season. The new erogenous zone is the ankle. It is not the most soft and inviting body part, but frankly, it’s all you’re going to get. Designers have turned their back on sexpot chic for autumn and are championing the idea of modesty. They’ve hidden voluptuous curves behind pussy-bow blouses and prim pencil skirts. But sex will out. The little bit of flesh that is on show is now strangely erotic. It may just be us, but a fantastically well-turned set of ankles in a pair of smart courts is, suddenly, kind of kinky.

TAKE A BOW

Bows were all over the autumn catwalks, but you don’t have to splash out on a designer number to get the look. Add a little feminine flourish to your autumn wardrobe by following these instructions:

1. Pop down to the local haberdasher (try John Lewis, or VV Rouleaux; 020 7224 5179), order a length of wide ribbon and practise tying it into a neat bow.

2. Once you have perfected the technique, attach said bows to everything you own. We have dressed up a camisole (£135, by Prelude; 020 7580 9984) with silk ribbon, but you can do the same with shoes, jackets, frocks, anything you fancy.

3. Secure the bow and ribbon to your outfit with a few tiny stitches.

4. Wait for the compliments to roll in. Can’t tie your own bow? Buy one ready-made (from £7.95, by VV Rouleaux, as before).

FREAKY FABRICS

Clothes used to be made from nice, simple things such as cotton, silk and, er, polyester. But these days, weird materials are considered wonderful. Designers are scouring the animal kingdom for exotic species to turn into bags, shoes and all manner of trendiness. Great if you want a new fluffy gilet. Dreadful if you’re a raccoon.

AND FINALLY. . .

Big cardies are the new ponchos. You heard it here first.
