This Macedonian pianist displays an impressive technique in his Debussy album. In the frothing Mouvement Anim? of Debussy’s Images Book I, he maintains as many as four different textures simultaneously. His bells are solemn in Cloches and the vacant beauty of Poissons d’Or leaves a shimmering afterglow. Yet his touch is a little too impressionistic sometimes and lacks precision, particularly in the opening of L’Isle Joyeuse which fails to grip. Clair de Lune sheds only a hazy light and though the Arabesques have a certain poise, one generally seeks cleaner, more definite lines. Children’s Corner, however, builds towards an admirably jaunty cakewalk.
