Simon Davies

Simon Davies is an exciting midfielder who likes to run with the ball at defenders and is capable of playing as a wing-back, on the right or centre of midfield. He started his professional career at Peterborough under Barry Fry where he earned the nickname ‘the Peterborough Wonderkid’. His excellent passing skills and ability to beat players attracted the interest of Tottenham Hotspur who bought him for £700,000 in 2000. He spent most of his first season on the bench, but impressed Glenn Hoddle, the manager, after coming on as a substitute and scoring two goals in an FA Cup tie against Stockport County. In 2001, as well as securing a first-team spot at Tottenham, he also earned his first international cap with Wales. The following season he was voted Tottenham’s fans’ player of the season and the Welsh footballer of the year. After five years at Spurs, he left to join Everton in 2005 for £3.5 million but has struggled to hold down a first-team place.
