Significant others: Kelly Brook

The relationships that make a life

Model and actress Kelly Brook, 30, was born in Kent but now lives in London.

My mum The entertainment industry can be fickle and people give you advice that serves them more than you, so having her there is a great support. She has no agenda, so if I’ve done something wrong or made myself look silly she’ll tell me. It’s important to have someone who keeps you grounded and gives you perspective; I’m lucky to have her.

My dad He passed away a couple of years ago after battling cancer and I miss him every day. Spending time with my family and looking at pictures has helped me cope, but I don’t think you ever get over it. I will always miss him.

My boyfriend I speak to Danny [Cipriani, the rugby player] a million times a day. He’s funny and cute and sends me silly little pictures and messages on the phone, and even though we live together we always find things to talk about. We were both brought up in working-class homes but got a good education and our attitudes to our careers are similar – it hasn’t been handed to us on a plate, we’ve had to sacrifice a lot in order to pursue our dreams and we work very hard. We have both grown up in the public eye, with the pressure of people criticising. Being treated like an adult when you still feel like a kid is hard. We don’t have children, we’re not married – we just enjoy each other’s company and I love it that way. I also love watching him play because he’s so talented and that’s such an aphrodisiac.

My accountant Richard Rosenberg has been my accountant since I was 17 and I couldn’t live without him. He keeps on top of everything – makes sure my bills are paid, that I have the right visas and currency for my trips, that all my taxes are up to date. He also advises me on investments and everything to do with my business. I trust him implicitly.

My acting coach The hardest thing I have ever faced was my West End debut in Fat Pig last year. There’s so much work involved in getting your voice ready and your stage presence right. Tamara Harvey worked with me for a couple of months so I would feel confident tackling the role and amazingly I didn’t feel nervous on the opening night; I felt ready. Because of the work she put in, I have a career in the West End, so I am grateful to her.

Kelly is the face of Sky Movies Christmas Channel and stars in Calendar Girls at the Noel Coward Theatre, London, until January 9
