Sir, Ben Macintyre (Sept 5) is right — let’s hear it for British road signs. In Germany, the countryside suffers from sign pollution: a simple country crossroads in the middle of nowhere has signs telling you what speed to reduce to, who has priority and what new speed you may later increase to, in all four directions.
