Adele has announced she has postponed the March performances of her Las Vegas residency due to illness.

The pop superstar apologised to fans for the inconvenience but said the unspecified sickness has taken a toll on her voice.

The postponement of ten dates in March — the first of which was due to take place on Friday — should perhaps come as no surprise given that Adele said during a concert on Saturday that her chest had been “on fire” and she needed to rest her voice.

Announcing the March performances would not take place, the 35-year-old said: “Sadly I have to take a beat and pause my Vegas residency.

“I was sick at the end of the last leg and all the way through my break. I hadn’t quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed and now I’m sick again, and unfortunately it’s all taken a toll on my voice.”

Adele, who began her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in November 2022, said the decision to postpone was made after advice from her doctor.

“I have no choice but to rest thoroughly,” the Grammy award winner, who underwent surgery to remove a polyp from her throat in 2011, said.

Adele said fans will be sent more information soon. The singer began the latest leg of her residency last month.

Aside from the ten cancelled performances Adele has another ten booked in for Las Vegas, beginning in May and ending mid-June.

She will have a short break after those shows before flying to Germany for a run of ten shows in Munich, where she will perform for audiences of 80,000.

Adele’s Las Vegas residency has proven to be a huge success. She performs to sold-out crowds each weekend and earns a reported $2 million a night.

Adele, who is dating the American sports agent Rich Paul, banters with fans from the stage and appears to delight in the intimate setting of The Colosseum, which has a capacity of about 4,100.

The residency had an inauspicious launch, however. Adele had been scheduled to begin her Las Vegas residency in January 2022 but on the eve of the premiere — when some fans had already flown in from around the world — she cancelled, blaming Covid-related production issues. She later said the backlash to the postponement left her “a shell of a person”.
