Shrewsbury couple devastated as the world’s oldest dog dies

The dachshund-cross terrier named by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest dog was put down yesterday. Cancer had been diagnosed after Otto, who would have been 21 next month, was found to have a stomach tumour, and his condition had deteriorated. Peter and Lynn Jones, from Shrewsbury, who had owned Otto since he was a puppy, said that they did not want him to suffer. Mrs Jones, 54, said: “We are devastated. He was the son I never had. It was the most agonising decision I have ever had to make. But the kindest thing to do was to let him go.”
