Shoosmiths recently acted in a Supreme Court case concerning two daughters who witnessed their father suffer a heart attack and collapse while they were out shopping in 2014. Both daughters, then aged 12 and 9, suffered psychiatric injury and are suing Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust, which is alleged to have negligently failed to diagnose their father’s life-threatening heart condition. The Shoosmiths partner Phil Barnes represented the claimants. The Supreme Court judgment had not been announced at the time of writing.

From offices across the UK and Brussels, the firm’s real estate investment group has acted on more than £1 billion worth of deals in 2023. This includes advising the seller in a £305 million deal in which the US investment firm GreenPoint Partners bought 37 car parks across the UK, comprising nearly 15,000 spaces. It also acted for the luxury health and fitness club operator Third Space on its acquisition of sites at three new locations in London.
